Fifty Something Women

Fabulous After Fifty

After her divorce from comedian David Steinberg, Judy Steinberg decided it was time for her to begin life anew. Her book Fabulous After Fifty: And Sexy at Sixty! is the result.

In the book, Steinberg encourages women to get in shape and spruce up their wardrobes. She advises women to “find the glamourous new you and show mother nature who’s boss”.

Steinberg shares with women her mechanisms for surviving divorce and learning to look towards the future, even if it is going to be different from the future they had envisioned. She talks to women about changing things in their lives, from the decor of their bedrooms to their attitudes towards their bodies. Being single and sixty doesn’t mean you can’t also be sexy.

Who’s Afraid of Fifty?

Who is today’s 50-something woman? She’s Meryl Streep, award winning actress who at 57 is still a highly sought-after performer. She’s Condoleeza Rice, 50, Secretary of State. She’s Oprah Winfrey, 51, TV personality and successful businesswoman.

Fifty

She’s not fooled into worshipping the cult of youth nor envious of it. She’s been 20-something, but she’s lived a lot more, learned a lot more. She’s gained wisdom and maturity and she’s not looking back. She’s secure in her sexuality, and knows the power of it. She knows who she is and what she is worth. She’s smart, savvy, confident.

Who is today’s 50-something woman?

She’s you.

What is Old Age? Is Fifty Old?

Some words are very relative in their meaning.  Take the word old.  Do you think you are old?  I don’t.  But I think Social Security now classes me in the “older Americans” group.   When referring to age, it seems that the older you get, the older “old” becomes. When I was 16 I though 40 or so, was fairly old. When I hit 30, I thought 55 or so was old. Now that I am 50, I don’t think old happens until at least 80… maybe 90. I should ask someone who is 85 what they think “old” is.Crow's Feet

I am not the first one to speculate on this question. I found a great page on the Internet about it. Ohio State has a page that explains different changes that occur at the different decades in our lives and tries to answer the question…

Sharon Stone – Middle Age Doesn’t Look Like It Used To

Fifty doesn’t look like it used to – at least that is the way it appears to me. True, she isn’t 50 yet. But I don’t think the next 12 to 18 months are going to change her all that much. And Sharon Stone’s remarks are worth reading. She has a unique view on aging and how she views herself.  And it isn’t what you might expect.

Although Stone received some heat for her “skin shots,” in her recent film, she caused more heat than most would expect for someone almost 50. Stone attributes her youthful look to exercise and her two children, both under three.

Supposedly Stone’s newest movie, “Basic Instinct II: Risk Addiction,” is steamier than the original. Time will tell. Viewers can check out the sequel on a DVD rental and judge what the new “almost 50″ looks like.
