E. Coli Lawsuit Filed
Well, you knew it would happen. The United States with only 5% of the world’s population has 70% of the world’s lawyers. We are a litigious society. So it was only a matter of time before the first lawsuit was filed in connection with the recent outbreak of E. coli that was traced to bagged spinach. But Gwyn Wellborn, 27, of Salem, Oregon didn’t lose any time.

In fact, Wellborn didn’t even wait until they had identified the source of the contamination, filing her suit against Dole Food Company. According to the FDA, the contaminated spinach has been traced to Natural Selections Foods, another California-based company. Other companies are being investigated for any connection to the outbreak, but none have been fingered and only Natural Selections Food has recalled its products containing spinach.
Wellborn was pretty ill, having been hospitalized for six days. She stated that she bought spinach on August 21 and ate it for several days. Wellborn said she got sick a week later, then was hospitalized for six days before being discharged on September 8. Yet by September 15, she had her lawsuit filed. That’s pretty quick work for someone so sick and just out of the hospital for a few days.
But it’s easy. Google “E. coli” and one of the very first results is a link to a website advertising “Bagged Spinach Linked to E.coli, Free Lawsuit Case Consultation”. Remember the lawyer’s motto: “Sue unto others before they sue unto you”.
